The Ashland County-West Holmes Career Center Board of Education meets on the third Thursday of each month at 7 pm in the Board Room which is near the Superintendent's office on the south side of the building.
The Board consists of nine members representing the five home school districts. Three members are from Ashland City Schools, two from the Tri-County Education Service Center, and one each from the Hillsdale Local, Loudonville-Perrysville Exempted Village, Mapleton Local, and West Holmes Local School Districts.

BOARD GOALS AND OBJECTIVES FOR 2011-2012
A. Focus on rigorous Secondary and Adult/Post-Secondary curricula to challenge and assist students with mastering career-technical and academic skills to promote student achievement at the highest level for successful employment and/or further education.
1. Continue to implement the Secondary High Schools That Work (HSTW) initiative to raise student achievement through maintaining focus on reading/writing across the curricula, seeking additional methods to improve math and science skills, utilizing data from the 2010 HSTW Assessment and December 2008 HSTW Technical Assistance Visit to guide efforts, providing additional support for secondary students who need to pass the OGT and refining Senior Projects;
2. Continue to develop challenging secondary and adult curricula that implement nationally accepted industry standards/certifications for career-technical programs and investigate the use of reliable assessments such as the National Occupational Competency Testing Institute (NOCTI) and National Center for Construction Education Research (NCCER) assessments as pre- and post-test instruments for assessing the effectiveness of career-technical programs;
3. Continue to evaluate the district’s career-technical program offerings to ensure program relevance and vitality through an analysis of job/career trends, employment/professional credential requirements, student interests/performance, facility/equipment needs, and instructional needs as well as continuing to update programs of study for each career-technical program as required by the Carl D. Perkins Act ; and,
4. Continue to implement the NCA (AdvancEd) Accreditation Standards Initiatives for the Adult/Post-Secondary Education Department to include expanding articulation between Secondary and Adult/Post-Secondary programs and meeting Performance Measures as specified in the Adult Career Technical Planning District (CTPD) Consortium Plan and fulfill the service requirements as a full member of the University System of Ohio.
B. Maintain the district’s demonstrated commitment to providing relevant and quality services for our students, staff and community customers.
1. Implement the CTPD Plans (secondary and adult) to ensure the district meets the Secondary/Adult Federal and State Performance Measures and align the plan with the district’s Consolidated Continuous Improvement Plan (CCIP), , Secondary and Adult NCA (AdvancEd) Plans, and HSTW Site Action Plan;
2. Provide increased opportunities for students and staff to interact with business and industry as well as post-secondary institutions with an emphasis on developing stronger partnerships with both entities and increase efforts to teach learning strategies to ensure students are well prepared for entrance into both the workforce and postsecondary education at any time in their lives; and,
3. Provide professional development opportunities and foster collegiality among staff to enhance the educational experience for students and enrich the curricula, resulting in an increase in student retention.
C. Maximize positive relationships with parents, students, associate schools, business/industry and our community by improving communication and thereby enhancing our image while increasing the awareness of services and programs.
1. Utilize a variety of communications tools, including an updated district website,outdoor digital message board, and the local media to promote student/district accomplishments and needs to business/industry, associate schools and the community;
2. Increase efforts to meet the special learning needs of all students by providing an optimal learning environment for each while holding them responsible for their own learning: and,
3. Continue to involve business/industry, postsecondary institutions, parents, students, associate schools, and community members in an advisory capacity in order to ensure that Secondary and Adult career-technical programs and academic courses meet the needs of the 21st Century and participate in the area P-16 Council (SPARC) as a method of collaborating with other stakeholders to advance the workforce development needs in the region.
D. Maintain a current district long-term Financial Plan of Action to manage, finance and prepare for the continuing growth of the district to ensure adequate revenue for financial stability for Secondary and Adult/Post-Secondary curricula.
1. Review/update the district’s Five-Year Maintenance Plan for fiscal years 2012 through 2017 to ensure building maintenance, equipment purchases and repairs, etc. are adequately identified and addressed;
2. Review/update the district’s Five-Year Levy Schedule to ensure that adequate resources are secured as needed to maintain financial stability;
3. Review/update the Five-Year Adult Education Financial Plan to ensure continued self-sufficiency and financial stability of Adult Education; and,
4. Review/evaluate district finances to determine/assess the financial impact of internal/external resources needed to update the district’s long-term Financial Plan of Action for Fiscal Years 2012 through 2017 to ensure adequate revenue and financial stability.
